The Children's Center offers services to children, ages 3-22 (preschool through highschool), who have been diagnosed on the autism spectrum, moderately or severely mentally retarded, emotionally disabled, and/or multiply-disabled with severe sensory impairment or traumatic brain injury. Services are offered to those in the Phoenix area and in central Arizona. The Children's Center offers a state-certified special education school as well as individual therapy services consisting of Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy, and Music Therapy. Auditory Integration Training is avaliable off site. |

The turn over rate at this private school is horrible among staff and teachers. The site is older and there are roaches in almost every building among many other problems, such as: gas lawn mowers being used during school hours (anyone knows this is unsafe, especially for a child with severe allergies or is bothered by loud noises), the school has and will be painted while your children are at school. No you will not be notified and yes your child will be inhaling fumes during their day at school. The director at this school is incompetent at his job, among many of the staff. Your child will not be top priority at this school. Therapy equipment is not checked for safety hazards, and when comes up it takes forever to be fixed, resulting in a unsafe situation for your child or lack of therapy equipment (very much needed sensory input). This school claims to be one of the best in the west. I beg to differ. The way this school is ran is so dissapointing. This school was founded by Temple Grandin and the therapy center was founded by Lora King. Two very influenential people that had a dream to make this school great, a place conducive for learning. It is not and has not been for many years. On any given day your child is being educated by a staff member without a degree, to save money they only have minimal teachers and have the aides run the classroom (and do not provide proper training in advance)...the teachers are out of the room 95 percent of the time writing IEPS or doing unrelavent paper work. I have been in this field for 10 years and I have never seen a school so unorganized, so uncohesive, money hungry and selfish. The higher ups at this organization should be a shamed of themselves for runing such a good school that Temple Grandin founded.
