The purpose of the workshop is to provide ESSENTIAL information to avoid "unfortunate" situations. To provide the criminal justice professional KEY skills of quick and accurate identification, understanding and management of developmentally disabled citizens.
My Developmental Disability Awareness In-Service has been approved by the Arizona POST (Arizona Police Officers' Standards and Training Board) for 2 CEU's. Plus, I completed presenting the program to ALL 307 sworn officers and civilian personnel of the Glendale, AZ Police Department.
I have combined the work of the Florida State Department of Developmental Disabilities, Autism Society of America, and the ARC of the United States; reams of reports, three videos and numerous documents into a concise, comprehensive 90+ minute participatory workshop.
To me, as a dedicated professional and father of a 9 year old boy dealing with the life-long challenges of autism, I am committed to educate law enforcement personnel and others in the criminal justice system on how to identify, understand and manage citizens who are developmentally disabled.
Organizations who have expressed support and interest in my program are Childhelp USA, Southwest Autism Research Center, the ARC of the United States, Office for Victims of Crime training and technical center Washington, DC and the National Safety Council just to name a "few".
I am interested in developing "strong", "lasting" and "mutually beneficial" strategic relationships with organizations and individuals advocating for the developmentally disabled population.
