Strategies for Autism through Individualized Learning (S.A.I.L) is a consulting project formed to help parents and professionals organize individualized teaching programs for children with autism and related disorders under the Pervasive Developmental Disorder umbrella (Autism, Asperger’s, PPD-NOS, Rett’s, Childhood degenerative disorder). S.A.I.L. focuses on developing goals in six basic domains:
* communication * social
* play/leisure * self-help
* academic * motor skills
We consult with families and professionals on the techniques needed to meet these goals and to advance the child's progress as new goals are chosen.

Our philosophy is based on the Science of Behavior Analysis (Applied Behavior Analysis, ABA) with an emphasis on teaching "learning to learn skills,” and preschool and early education curriculum. Our intervention combines strategies and state of the art practices from many of the ABA autism research and intervention centers around the country.

Our goal is to involve all of the people working with the child (i.e., daycare, school, mother's day out, baby-sitters, extended family, Occupational Therapist, Physical Therapist, Speech Pathologist, Music Therapist etc.) resulting in a comprehensive and coordinated teaching effort. Through this cooperation, we hope to surround the child with people who know how to teach him/her most effectively. Objectives are individualized per child based on current skills and immediate, short term, and long term needs with the result being maximized learning in the least restrictive environment. Teaching strategies will be matched to the child's learning style and all learning environments; thus each child's program will be designed specifically for him/her.
