Governmental agency; The Governor's Council on Developmental Disabilities, Georgia's DD Council, is the state planning council created by a federal mandate through the Developmental Disabilities Act. The Council is a separate state agency attached to the Georgia Department of Human Resources for administrative purposes. The Council is charged with creating systems change for people with developmental disabilities and their families to: Increase independence, inclusion, integration, and productivity for people with disabilities through such activities as public policy research, analysis, and reform, project demonstrations, and education and training.

HIT SERVICES provides programs which are tailored to meet the specific needs of each individual child by determining their unique pattern of strengths and weaknesses, so they may reach their maximum potential. HIT SERVICES provides early intensive intervention for children from age 2 to age 7 at intake/diagnosis, and who have been diagnosed with autism or a related disorder. Children above the chronological age of 7 at intake are considered on an individual basis. HIT SERVICES focuses on communication and verbal behavior, learning readiness, and reduction of problem behaviors. Social development and interactive play skills are also core components of the program.
