The Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) Clinic is a multidisciplinary clinic that brings together a campus and community-wide collaboration of clinicians, researchers and families to foster excellence in clinical care for children and families with ASD. It is staffed by specialists in developmental/behavioral pediatrics, psychology and neuro-psychology. It is part of a university- wide effort to also foster clinical research and basic science research into the clinical and biological underpinnings of these disorders. The broad objectives of the program include (1) Providing a state-of-the-art multidisciplinary center for the evaluation and diagnosis of ASD (2) Working closely with families and community outreach, and (3) Fostering clinical training and research efforts. |

One of the most complex tasks both parents and professionals face is developing and implementing an effective language intervention for children with autism. Parents and professionals are finding that BOTH Discrete Trial Training (DTT) and Natural Environment Training (NET), together with the help of Skinner's (1957) Functional Analysis of Verbal Behavior to be very effective for children with autism. This is commonly referred to as Applied Verbal Behavior (AVB)which is a specialty within the field of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). It is a place where parents and professionals running home (and school) programs can discuss concerns and share their knowledge of this type of teaching. |
