Adult Continuing Education for Persons with Developmental Disabilities (ACED) offers adults the opportunity to attend non-credit classes in an educational and social environment. The ACED program is designed to teach independent living skills and provide life-enhancing experiences. ACED is offered by the UMKC Institute for Human Development, a University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities, and Metropolitan Community College-Longview, with funding from the Jackson County Board of Services.

Metropolitan School, founded in 1967, is a private 501(c)3, co-educational school serving grades 5-12. We provide comprehensive educational services for children with learning disabilities, attention deficit disorders, and other special learning needs. The mission of Metropolitan School is to lead our community in providing effective, comprehensive educational services for adolescents who have atypical learning styles.

Progress Listening Center helps children with Autism, Asperger's Syndrome, or ADD/ADHD by offering EnListen, the newest patented program available to improve listening, auditory processing, and sensory integration. Developed by Sound Listening Corporation who is chaired by Dr. Billie Thompson, EnListen provides families an in-home choice once the initial evaluation is done. Dr. Thompson was the pioneer who brought Tomatis to the U.S. EnListen takes the benefits of Tomatis many steps further by improving Bone Conduction interference and increasing all processing of sounds necessary to produce word sounds, body coordination and receptive language.

Provides therapeutic intervention within an academic setting for M/F ages 3-21 with autism, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, learning disabilities, and other behavioral and developmental disabilities. Provides before and after-school care and a summer session.

Rivendale Institute of Learning II provides year-round educational support to children with learning disabilities, language delays and autism. The school gives these children an alternative to public education geared toward their needs, allowing them to learn in an environment emphasizing social, emotional, physical and intellectual development. Currently, it is the only program of its kind in southwest Missouri. Private agency.

We are a medical library which serves both clinical and consumer needs. We were given a donation by the Jasper Newton County Medical Alliance with which to purchase books on Autism and Autism Spectrum Disorders. These materials may be checked out of the library for two weeks.
