We provide diagnostic assessments and assist families in applying for state supported service. Carolina Comprehensive Services focus is person-centered growth and development through a variety of professional and community resources. We offer periodic family trainings in Sign Language, Picture Exchange Communication System, Verbal Behavior, and Behavioral Modification.

Easter Seals UCP North Carolina is a statewide non-profit organization that provides supports and services to over 15,000 North Carolina residents with disabilities and their families. Easter Seals UCP’s three major focus areas are Child and Family Services, Accessible Living and Employment.

Since 1980, The Exceptional Children’s Assistance Center (ECAC) has grown from an all volunteer parent organization to a full service Parent Training & Information Center serving families in North Carolina with more than 25 full and part-time staff and offices throughout NC. All services are provided at no charge to parents and families.

Educational/disability law.

The Epilepsy Foundation is the national voluntary agency solely dedicated to the welfare of the 2.7 million people with epilepsy in the U.S. and their families. The organization works to ensure that people with seizures are able to participate in all life experiences; and to prevent, control and cure epilepsy through research, education, advocacy and services. In addition to programs conducted at the national level, epilepsy clients throughout the United States are served by local Epilepsy Foundation offices in nearly 100 communities.

Family Resource Center for Families with Children with Disabilities in the counties surrounding and including Buncombe County.

To provide a statewide protection and advocacy program; investigate complaints; pursue legal remedies for protection; review and recommend changes in laws; aid and assist local advocacy programs; and advise and assist on employment issues.

To provide vocational services for disabled and/or disadvantaged persons so that each may reach his or her maximum vocational potential and live more independently, successfully, and productively within the community.

Parent centers in each state provide training and information to parents of infants, toddlers, school-aged children, and young adults with disabilities and the professionals who work with their families. This assistance helps parents participate more effectively with professionals in meeting the educational needs of children and youth with disabilities. Parent centers are funded by the U.S. Department of Education, under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA)

Jonah & The Whale Foundation is a 501(c)3 non profit that helps families of disabled and chronically ill children The foundation provides parents with binders and resource materials to encourage organization of medical and educational information and to further encourage better communication between all parties involved. The foundation also has a mobile & web library with books about many diseases and disabilities for parents to use or even purchase at low cost, a collection of durable medical equipment is also available for parents who have exhausted every avenue to obtain insurance coverage, and finally the foundation offers emotional support for the parents and siblings as well as family networking for parents to meet others in similar circumstances. J&TWF distributes family support and education through specific brochures and web pages for moms, dads, and siblings. Issues include ways for mothers to protect themselves from difficult hospitals and challenging physicians, encouragement for fathers to become more knowledgeable about and more involved with their special needs child, as well as suggestions for parents to include and support the needs of their well children.
