As the primary agency dedicated to disability services in Oklahoma, we offer a wide range of programs for approximately 87,000 individuals each year. We help employers recruit qualified employees who really want to work. We assist students, parents and educational staff in public schools, as well as those attending our residential schools. DRS also determines medical eligibility for Social Security disability benefits and operates dozens of programs that help Oklahomans lead more independent, productive lives.

The Oklahoma Developmental Disabilities Council was established in 1971 to help coordinate the efforts of state agencies and private organizations in Oklahoma in meeting the needs of Oklahomans with developmental disabilities and their families.

Website for parents with all different types of special needs, with many resources raning from bulleting boards, diagnosis search, parent to parent linking service; very strong resource in 'Information Avenue Archive'.

As a result of her daughter's Allison's special needs from birth, Lisa Baker became very interested in the resources available on the Internet. She spent hours in front of the computer on a daily basis, looking for other parents like her. Unfortunately, most of the enjoyable sites were geared towards the "normal" child. Parent magazines weren't mentioning the "special child." The sites that did offer communication between parents of children with special needs were dry, and humor was virtually non-existent. As a result, Lisa thought about creating a web site for parents that would serve as a form of support as well as entertainment.
