The Mainstreaming-At-Camp (MAC) Program , offered through YAI/National Institute for people with Disabilities’ Clinical and Family Services Department provides children and young adults with developmental and learning disabilities a fantastic summer experience in traditional camp settings. YAI’s partnerships with two of the leading YMCA summer camps in the northeast enable us to provide a fun and unique summer camp experience in an *inclusive*, residential setting. Rather than segregate individuals with disabilities from their typically developing peers, MAC offers a camping experience within traditional summer camps to foster YAI/NIPD’s goals of inclusion and independence. In the course of our partnership, the program also promotes acceptance of diversity within the entire camp community by providing typically developing campers with a new awareness and acceptance of people with disabilities. MAC is also a valuable resource for families and caregivers in need of respite. See website for more details.

Respite Care visits may be arranged for any time, including weekends, weekdays, holidays or evenings, and may last from a few hours to two weeks. However, Respite does not operate weekdays between the hours of 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on a non-emergency basis. At any given time, the number of individuals being served in the Respite facility may not exceed that permitted by local zoning ordinances or Labor and Industry standards for the building. Additionally, the combination of individuals must be such that all individuals needs can be safely met and effectively managed within established staffing patterns. Because of the demand for Respite Care Services, scheduling tends to occur at least two weeks in advance of the planned visit. Presently services are provided in a licensed four bedroom ranch style home. The home is handicapped accessible. There are 4 full time highly trained and experienced staff and 1 Supervisor available 24/7. Persons needing services might have funding via their county office of MH/MR or can choose to self pay. Services are provided to persons age 4 through the life span with a primary diagnosis of Developmental Disability and could have a secondary diagnosis of Cerebral Palsy, Autism, etc.
