The purpose of the workshop is to provide ESSENTIAL information to avoid "unfortunate" situations. To provide the criminal justice professional KEY skills of quick and accurate identification, understanding and management of developmentally disabled citizens. My Developmental Disability Awareness In-Service has been approved by the Arizona POST (Arizona Police Officers' Standards and Training Board) for 2 CEU's. Plus, I completed presenting the program to ALL 307 sworn officers and civilian personnel of the Glendale, AZ Police Department. I have combined the work of the Florida State Department of Developmental Disabilities, Autism Society of America, and the ARC of the United States; reams of reports, three videos and numerous documents into a concise, comprehensive 90+ minute participatory workshop. To me, as a dedicated professional and father of a 9 year old boy dealing with the life-long challenges of autism, I am committed to educate law enforcement personnel and others in the criminal justice system on how to identify, understand and manage citizens who are developmentally disabled. Organizations who have expressed support and interest in my program are Childhelp USA, Southwest Autism Research Center, the ARC of the United States, Office for Victims of Crime training and technical center Washington, DC and the National Safety Council just to name a "few". I am interested in developing "strong", "lasting" and "mutually beneficial" strategic relationships with organizations and individuals advocating for the developmentally disabled population.

| Rusty's Morningstar Ranch | |
|---|---|
| Tel:(928) 634-4784 Cornville, AZ 86325 |
|
|
Rusty's Morningstar Ranch, Inc. adheres to the belief that since autistic people differ from those whose primary disability is mental retardation in significent ways, they ought to, and indeed have a right to have, programs that are designed to meet their special needs. The severe disorders of communication and behavior that accompany the autistic condition require an intensive, often highly structured program. The ranch setting, we believe, is the best way to provide this, as autistic people seem to function well in this quiet, rural environment. Our mission is to provide the serenity of atmosphere in which meaningful work and strong, caring relationships can be developed while the ranchers learn to get in touch with nature and themselves.
