ABC of NC is a private, not-for-profit, research-based provider of quality educational and behavioral services for young children with autism spectrum disorder. The organization uses the principles of applied behavior analysis (ABA) within a caring environment to help children develop their full potential. The center uses a curriculum and teaching techniques derived from the principles of behavioral psychology. The application of this science is called applied behavior analysis (ABA). Our philosophy is to teach children skills, beginning with basics and moving on to more sophisticated, by creating an environment that motivates them to talk and play with their teachers/tutors and then to transfer these skills as soon as possible to peers, siblings and other adults. One of the most complex tasks both parents and professionals face is developing and implementing an effective language intervention for children with autism. Parents and professionals are finding that BOTH Discrete Trial Training (DTT) and Natural Environment Training (NET), together with the help of Skinner's (1957) Functional Analysis of Verbal Behavior to be very effective for children with autism. This is commonly referred to as Applied Verbal Behavior (AVB)which is a specialty within the field of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA).
