AUCD formerly UAP(University Affiliated Programs) are authorized by federal legislation to help States and local communities respond to the needs of people with developmental disabilities and their families.(AUCDs) serve as a liaison between the academic world and the developmental disabilities service delivery system. AUCDs network with and provide assistance to State Agencies, their local affiliates, and to various nongovermental consumer-based organizations. Most AUCDs provide direct clinical, educational, and other services to individuals and families, or can assist families in finding services.

Our mission is to help children with special needs realize greater well being, independence, and enjoyment in life. We've met that need for thousands of children in western South Dakota and the surrounding area for the past 20 years.

Currently Easter Seals South Dakota serves in excess of 10,000 children and adults each year, with the number served climbing each year. Children and adults with disabilities and special needs find highest-quality services designed to meet their individual needs when they come to Easter Seals. Music Therapy Services of South Dakota provides research-based and developmentally appropriate music therapy to children and young adults with disabilities. Services range from indvidual and groups sessions, consulting to programs, workshops and inservices. Specialized music instruction is also offered. Music Therapy and related strategies are provided by a board-certified music therapist and registered state service provider.

Progress Listening Center helps children with Autism, Asperger's Syndrome, or ADD/ADHD by offering EnListen, the newest patented program available to improve listening, auditory processing, and sensory integration. Developed by Sound Listening Corporation who is chaired by Dr. Billie Thompson, EnListen provides families an in-home choice once the initial evaluation is done. Dr. Thompson was the pioneer who brought Tomatis to the U.S. EnListen takes the benefits of Tomatis many steps further by improving Bone Conduction interference and increasing all processing of sounds necessary to produce word sounds, body coordination and receptive language.

Respite care is temporary relief care designed for families of children or adults with special needs. Respite care can range from a few hours of care provided on a one-time basis to overnight or extended care sessions. Respite care can be utilized on a regular or irregular basis and can be provided by family members, friends, skilled care providers or professionals. Providers, chosen by the family, care for children or adults with special needs while families take a class, go to a movie, go on a vacation, or enjoy any activity.

Time 2 Shine Therapy is a private, non-profit organization which offers occupational and speech therapy services to children with delays in communication, social and play skills, daily living skills, fine motor skills and sensory needs. All sessions are conducted by an occupational therapist and a speech language pathologist. The therapy area is divided into interest areas or centers, including areas for art, imaginative and creative play, quiet time, sensory, snack and music. Intensive therapy is provided within these interest areas or centers addressing the specific goals determined by family and therapists. Therapy is child directed, addressing the individual needs of each child.
