ACME Together (Autistic Children's Movies and Entertainment Together) is a Not-for-Profit organization that arranges events at a variety of theaters, restaurants and other venues in the DC Metro Area. Designed for children with Autism and other related "spectrum" disorders, ACME events are opportunities for children and their families to meet others in a low-pressure social situation. Children are encouraged to play, interact with each other and express themselves freely, as are adults, without the "social expectations" of a non-autism spectrum setting. The costs for all events are covered by a small fee, and any funds above that are used to sponsor future events, or are donated to a charitable organization.

Our goals in this data bank project are to establish a network for communication, education, research, and advocacy for those with autism combined with a hearing or visual disability, and encourage the development of centers to diagnose and evaluate individuals with these disorders. We need to know if there are programs making a positive impact with this "syndrome", and if not, how we can make them happen. Educating physicians in the community and presenting educational sessions at the ASA National Conference each year round out the objectives we hope to attain through the project.

AUTISM CENTER OF VIRGINIA REGISTRY
VIRGINIA COMMONWEALTH UNIVERSITY

If you live in Virginia and have a child or other family member who has been diagnosed as having autism, consider enrolling him or her in the VCU Autism Center Registry.

The Registry is an organization that facilitates autism research by matching investigators with families who would like to participate in research projects. Historically, registries have been extremely helpful in learning more about the pervasiveness of certain diseases and disorders, their progression, and ways to cure them. Now it is time to do that with autism. Enrollment in the Registry is easy, and you and your family choose whether or not you would like to participate in any given research project. For more information and enrollment materials, you may go to our website at http://www.vcuhealth.org/vtcc/Autism%20Registry.html or you can contact us by e-mail, phone, fax, or postal mail at:

The Autism Learning Center (ALC) was founded on September 10th, 1997 by Dr.Paul Glass and Leslie Glass to meet the tremendous need for comprehensive ABA services to familes with autistic children in the Northern Virginia area. ALC and our clinical consultants, Autism Partnership, have developed an extensive and unique treatment program that offers a variety of treatment options regardless of race, creed, gender, or ethnicity.

ALC provides a highly trained, experienced staff focusing on developing language, cognitive, self-help, and play skills. This intensive individualized treatment is designed to develop these skills as rapidly as possible. All cases are supervised by a psychologist from Autism Partnership and managed by our ABA Program Director. The program is tightly managed to avoid wasting critical time. Therapy is home-based to provide a real-life setting. Depending on the skill being developed, therapy may take place at home, on the playground, music class, and maybe at the closest fishing pond.

In 1992, working out of our home, we started a network to assist parents and professionals to learn more about autism and hearing/visual impairment, and in 1993 the network was adopted as a formal committee of the Autism Society of America.

Our goals in this data bank project are to establish a network for communication, education, research, and advocacy for those with autism combined with a hearing or visual disability, and encourage the development of centers to diagnose and evaluate individuals with these disorders.
