All the information concerns teaching methods that are a branch of applied behavior analysis (ABA) called behavioral intervention. One of the most complex tasks both parents and professionals face is developing and implementing an effective language intervention for children with autism. Parents and professionals are finding that BOTH Discrete Trial Training (DTT) and Natural Environment Training (NET), together with the help of Skinner's (1957) Functional Analysis of Verbal Behavior to be very effective for children with autism. This is commonly referred to as Applied Verbal Behavior (AVB)which is a specialty within the field of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). It is a place where parents and professionals running home (and school) programs can discuss concerns and share their knowledge of this type of teaching.

The Parent Information Center (PIC), a project of Parents Helping Parents of Wyoming Inc., opened in August, 1991 as one of the nationwide network of nonprofit, Parent Training and Information Centers (PTI's) funded by the United States Department of Education. Our first responsibility is to inform and educate parents about special education law and the rights and responsibilities they and their child have under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). The main goals and purposes of PIC are to help families better understand education issues as they relate to their child's disability, and to provide support and encouragement to parents as they face their child's journey through life.

Our goal is to provide the local unit leaders and the local members with as much information as possible to make your work as easy as possible. The work and partnership building you are doing in the schools and communities of NH is invaluable. Research shows that when parents are involved children do better. As the new trend of building community, business and school partnerships evolves we believe that research will also show that these partnerships enrich the school community.
