The Alabama Department of Rehabilitation Services' (ADRS) mission is to enable Alabama's children and adults with disabilities to achieve their maximum potential. We are the only state agency in the country that offers a comprehensive array of medical, educational, psychological, vocational, technological and independent living services for children and adults with disabilities from birth through old age. ADRS is comprised of seven major divisions: Computer Services, Accounting and Purchasing, Human Resources, Legal, Early Intervention System, Children's Rehabilitation Service and Vocational Rehabilitation Service. Alabama Disabilities Action Coalition is a non-partisan coalition of individuals with disabilities and organizations representing them. ADAC conducts Candidates Forums and Legislative Days to educate legislators and the public about disability issues. ADAC's committees are working on other ways to advance the causes of people with disabilities in Alabama.

ADAP's Mission is to provide quality, legally-based advocacy services to persons with disabilities through protecting, promoting, and expanding their rights.

ADAP is the federally mandated, statewide, "Protection and Advocacy" (P&A) program serving eligible individuals with disabilities in Alabama. The central purpose of P&A programs throughout the United States is to respond to allegations of abuse, neglect and violations of rights of persons with disabilities or discrimination based on their disability.

Special Education Services provides technical assistance to all education agencies serving Alabama's gifted children, as well as children with disabilities. SES is also responsible for ensuring that education agencies providing services are in compliance with all federal and state laws and regulations and for processing all complaints and requests for due process hearings and mediation regarding special education issues.

The purpose the Children's Rehabilitation Engineering Team is to serve people with disabilities in the Alabama counties of Mobile, Baldwin, Choctaw, Clarke,Escambia, Monroe, and Washington by assisting them with their adaptive technology needs.

The mission of the Civitan International Research Center is to improve the well-being and the quality of life of individuals and families affected by mental retardation and developmental disabilities.

Vocational Rehabilitation Services (VRS) is a state and federally funded program housed within ADRS. VRS provides specialized employment services and training to help Alabamians with disabilities get and keep jobs. We also provide general vocational rehabilitation information for all Alabamians.
