We are a K-12 school for students with special learning needs. We serve students in the autism spectrum and have impressive results in social skills and in language among these children. The directo's thesis is entitled, "Autism: Reducting obsessive behaviors." The medical director, Dr. Eric Tridas, MD, is nationally known for his work with autism. We also serve students with learning disabilities and developmental delay.

The Center for Autism and Related Disabilities at the University of South Florida is a free community-based project that provides information and consultation to individuals diagnosed with autism spectrum disorders and related disabilities. CARD-USF offers instruction and coaching to families and professionals through a training and assistance model. Our work focuses on providing communities, organizations, agencies, service providers and families with the knowledge and skills to support children and adults in early intervention, school, community, work, and home settings. In our work, we address issues that impact individuals across the life span.

The Children's Services Council of Broward County has been spearheading a County-wide effort to identify gaps in Special Needs Services and create partnerships, coalitions and activities to create a seamless system of care.

The Developmental Disabilities Program is a part of the Florida Department of Children and Families. The program assists people who have developmental disabilities and their families. It also provides assistance to identify the needs of people with developmental disabilities and funding to purchase supports and services. Although the Program Office is in Tallahassee, the supports and services for people with developmental disabilities are provided through district offices throughout the state.

Serves Indian River, Martin, Okeechobee, and St. Lucie Counties.

Dr. Messier is the Director of Student Services for the county and currently holds a doctorate in Child and Youth Studies, Special Education form Nova Southeastern. She is a national and international speaker regarding special education and education. She is available to provide workshops and training to assist districts, parents community members and educators.

The University of Miami Autism and Developmental Disabilities Monitoring project (UM-ADDM) is an investigation coordinated with the Florida Department of Health to determine and monitor the number of children with an autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in south Florida. This study will help establish, for the first time, an accurate count of the number of children in south Florida with autism. Investigators are members of the University of Miami Department of Psychology, in association with the University of Miami, Center for Autism and Related Disabilities (UM-CARD). UM-ADDM is a collaborative undertaking of the CDC and the University of Miami.
