The Council identifies, develops and promotes public policy and support practices through capacity building, advocacy, and systems change activities. The purpose is to ensure that people with developmental disabilities and their families are included in planning, decision making, and development of policy related to services and supports that affect their quality of life and full participation in communities of their choice.

Inclusive education means that all students in a school, regardless of their strengths or weaknesses in any area, become part of the school community. They are included in the feeling of belonging among other students, teachers, and support staff. The federal Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and its 1997 amendments make it clear that schools have a duty to educate children with disabilities in general education classrooms.

Our mission is to assist each student in establishing effective learning through individualized assessment and individualized instruction using multi-sensory learning strategies (e.g., Davis Dyslexia Correction®, visual-spatial approaches to learning, educational kinesthetics, EEG biofeedback, cognitive rehabilitation, and accelerative learning). Iowa COMPASS is Iowa's free, statewide disability information and referral service for people with disabilties, their families, service provicers, and other members of the community. We maintain information on over 5,000 local, state, and national agencies and programs.

The Iowa Insurance Division supervises all insurance business transacted in the state, including health maintenance organizations and mutual hospital and health service corporations.

The Iowa Program for Assistive Technology (IPAT) is Iowa's grant project under the Assistive Technology Act (ATA) of 1998. IPAT's goals are to promote and create systems change in the state with regards to assistive technology (AT) and it's use. IPAT works with consumers and family members, service providers, and state and local agencies/organizations to promote assistive technology through awareness, training, and policy work.

Iowa Respite and Crisis Care Coalition partners with Prevent Child Abuse Iowa and the Department of Human Services as well as private individuals like you to help families get a short break. Respite Care services provide termporary relief to parents or caregivers of individuals with a disability, special need, or chronic illness.

The mission of the Iowa Speech-Language-Hearing Association is to be the organization that individuals with communication challenges, and professionals who serve them rely on for advocacy, quality service, education, and attainment of the highest professional standards.

Parent Training and Information Center of Iowa (PTI) is a federally funded grant project from the U.S. Department of Education that focuses on the educational needs of children with disabilities in Iowa, particularly those who are underserved or may be inappropriately identified. In addition to technical assistance to families, PTI also provides training on the Indviduals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). The goal is to help parents better understand the Individual Education Program (IEP) and Individual Family Support Program (IFSP) process and become better advocates for their children.
