The mission of Arc BRIDGES is to improve the welfare of persons with mental retardation and their families. This mission includes the provision of support, training and care through day services, residential programs and social services that help people with all levels of mental retardation develop skills and abilities that assist their movement toward more integration, independence and happiness.

The mission further includes participation and leadership in local, state and national organizations and the provision of education programs which actively promote understanding and respect of the rights, problems and needs of persons with mental retardation.

Evaluation and assessment of possible PDD's. A systems approach to working with family and community to provide support and guidance in the areas of Autism and other behavior disorders. Individual,group,family and couples counseling for those affected by ASDs, including parents, siblings and high functioning individuals on the spectrum. Parent skills training on behavior modification and skills acquisition. Behavior consultation and training in the community setting.

The AETC provides parent and advocate training through a three-tiered training and certification program (details available online). Sheila Wolfe, the Executive Director, also provides direct consulting services to families regarding appropriate special education programs for children with disabilities in the public schools. The AETC is working to open an Early Intervention School for 3-7 year old children with devlopmental disabilities.

ICOIL oversees independent living services throughout the state and works with the Family and Social Services Administration’s Division of Disability, Aging and Rehabilitative Services toward developing a state plan for independent living. Members of ICOIL are appointed by the Governor. There are eight centers for independent living in Indiana that provide advocacy, information and referral, training and peer counseling.
