Name of Study: Time Use Study of Adolescents with an Autism Spectrum Disorder: Media & Friends

Study Purpose: This study explores how adolescents with an autism spectrum disorder (ASD) use media (watching television and using a computer), how they spend time with friends, their psychological well-being, and their relationships with parents and friends.

Location: Mail-based survey with no geographical limitation in the United States

Eligibility Criteria: Adolescents aged 12 to 18 years old with a diagnosis of an autism spectrum disorder (should have 6th-grade reading level or higher)

Children with autism 7-17: Participate in Brain Imaging Research

Researchers at Boston University School of Medicine are seeking children and adolescents ages 7-17 with autism or Asperger’s syndrome for a study of brain structure and function using MRI. Participation involves cognitive testing, practice in a pretend brain scanner, and the MRI.

Each participant will receive a picture of his brain and be compensated $50 for the MRI scan. For the cognitive testing, participants will receive reports and be compensated $40.

FRAXA was founded in 1994 by three parents of children with fragile X syndrome, Katie Clapp, Michael Tranfaglia, MD, and Kathy May, to support scientific research aimed at finding a treatment and a cure for fragile X syndrome. Fragile X research is drastically underfunded, considering its high prevalence, prospects for a cure, and the promise that this research holds for advancing understanding of other disorders like autism, Alzheimer's disease, and X-linked mental retardation.
