Adaptive Environments promotes accessibility as well as universal design through education programs, technical assistance, training, consulting, publications and design advocacy. The Autism Resource Center was conceived in 1996 by a group of parents to serve primarily as an information and referral service for children and families affected by disorders within the Autism Spectrum; Autism, PDD NOS and Asperger's. The Center services DMR Region II. This encompasses North Central, Worcester, and South Valley areas. All totaled there are 63 towns within the Autism Resource Center's service area. Parents who live outside the area are also welcome to access the center.


This program is funded in part by the Department of Mental Retardation (DMR) and administered by HMEA, Inc. The Autism Resource Center is a family governed project and is overseen by a Family Steering Committee made up of parents who represent the concerns and ideas of families from the five geographical areas within the service region. The fundraising activities of the Steering Committee augments the funding provided by the state.

In her efforts to help her child she discovered that there was a tremendous need for services and information for children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder and their parents. At Children Making Strides we believe that there is hope for all of our children, and that each child deserves the opportunity to reach his or her full potential, and that potential should have no limits. We also believe that parents need support, information, and encouragement in their efforts to help their child.
