Through the Department of Health's Family Infant Toddler (FIT) Program early intervention services are available to help families who have concerns about the development of their young child (birth to three).

The Family Infant and Toddler Program at the Department of Health is the lead agency in New Mexico for the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), Part C. In New Mexico early intervention services are provided throughout New Mexico by thirty five (35) FIT Program providers to children with or at risk for, developmental delays and their families.

The family and a team of early intervention personnel will develop an Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP). The IFSP will document the outcomes identified for the child and family as well as the early intervention and other services to help meet those outcomes. The IFSP will detail how often, for how long and the method by which each service will be provided. A family may accept or decline any service offered to them.

AUCD formerly UAP(University Affiliated Programs) are authorized by federal legislation to help States and local communities respond to the needs of people with developmental disabilities and their families.(AUCDs) serve as a liaison between the academic world and the developmental disabilities service delivery system. AUCDs network with and provide assistance to State Agencies, their local affiliates, and to various nongovermental consumer-based organizations. Most AUCDs provide direct clinical, educational, and other services to individuals and families, or can assist families in finding services.
