CAL’s Early Intervention Division provides services to children on the autism spectrum or who have other developmental and/or language-based disabilities and deficits. Through the use of Applied Behavior Analysis, children enrolled in this program are trained in core adaptive skill areas such as imitating, listening, attending, and using basic speech skills. Applied Behavior Analysis involves breaking down complex skill areas into smaller, teachable units and arranging learning environments according to basic principles such that mastery of these skill areas is made possible. Applied Behavior Analysis as a treatment for children with autism and developmental disabilities has an extensive research base, and has been scientifically shown to be the most effective treatment for children with autism. In fact, the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development lists Applied Behavior Analysis as a recommended treatment for children with autism.
