PARI was incorporated in 1980 as a "consumer-directed" Independent Living Center. Our staff works with people with any kind of disability to identify goals and provide training, equipment, advocacy, and counseling to help them to achieve their goals. Whether the consumer is seeking medical resources, new ways of performing activities of daily life, transportation, housing, or ways of becoming involved in the community, the PARI Independent Living Center is the individual's professional resource for reaching independence. The Independent Living Center is a unique concept in non-residential resources for the person with a disability. PARI is a private, not for profit, community based agency whose programs and policies are determined by people with disabilities.

The Autism Project of Rhode Island’s (APRI) mission is to educate parents of children with autism—and the many professionals that support them—on the best practices available. The project proposes to implement the Parent Coaching Program to offer initial training, skill building, and support to families with children with autism. It will serve as an introductory level training on important interventions and techniques to communicate with a child with autism, to decrease challenging behaviors, and to help a child live more independently. It will also provide skills for parents to begin to reduce stress in the family, and for the child with autism.

Rhode Island Parent Information Network (RIPIN) employs more than forty staff members whose duties range from providing direct service to families, to supporting our agency-wide advocacy efforts, to helping build effective parent/school/community partnerships. In all, we offer 11 different programs and services for families with children in Rhode Island. Our administrative offices are located in Pawtucket, Rhode Island but our field staff and volunteers work in and travel to all parts of the state.
