The Protection and Advocacy (P&A) System are congressionally mandated, legally-based disability rights agencies. P&A agencies have the authority to provide legal representation and other advocacy services, under all federal and state laws, to all people with disabilities (based on a system of priorities for services). All P&As maintain a presence in facilities that care for people with disabilities, where they monitor, investigate and attempt to remedy adverse conditions. These agencies also devote considerable resources to ensuring full access to inclusive educational programs, financial entitlements, health care, accessible housing and productive employment opportunities.

Advocating Solutions for Kids (ASK) is a private professional service for students who are experiencing difficulty in public school or need community resources. The mission of ASK is to find solutions to ensure each child receives the services and education they deserve.

Most parents do not know that physical, emotional disorders or learning disabilities entitle their child to coverage under the IDEA laws. These laws were enacted to accommodate all students with special needs.

The Arc of the Capital Area, a non-profit organization, is committed to promoting independence and choice by providing individualized services to adults and children with developmental disabilities.

ADDA-SR is a non-profit organization. Their mission is to:

-Provide a resource network
-To support individuals impacted by attention deficit disorders
-To advocate for the development of community resources and services that meet the education, social, and health care needs of all individuals with ADD/ADHD
-To keep the public informed on the disorder through the media, an association newsletter, referral service, monthly chapter meetings, education programs, parent and adult services, as well as conferences and workshops.

Behavioral Innovations provides quality Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) care from Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBA's) to families in DFW, North Texas, the United States, and abroad through a wide array of services.

The Burkhart Center for Autism Education and Research provides research-based programming to enhance the quality of life for families and students with autism spectrum disorders. Additionally, the Center studies and disseminates best practice methods for transitioning individuals with autism spectrum disorders from secondary school to adulthood.

We provide three main types of services: individual services, school services, and teaching seminars. The individual services are intended for children with behavior difficulties stemming from disorders such as autism, emotional/mood disorders, developmental delays or caused by age or environmental factors. For individual families we provide a thorough case history review, data analysis, observations in multiple settings and behavioral interventions tailored for the specific child to modify problem behaviors. Within the school setting, we provide child advocacy support and shadowing for individual families which consists of developing individualized school plans for behavior, training school staff, developing academic and behavioral IEPs, attending ARDs, assisting in transitioning from one environment to another, and conducting functional behavior assessments.

For school districts and private schools, we offer staff training on applied behavior analysis, compliance training, and characteristics of children with behavior disorders. We conduct student behavior consults which consist of functional behavior assessments, and establishing appropriate individualized behavior plans and academic/behavior IEPs. We develop behavior programs for new behavioral units or support existing self-contained behavior programs for autistic units and emotionally disturbed units. We support schools in the event of due process hearings

Finally, we train private families in applied behavior analysis principles, toilet training, sleeping habits, compliance training, basic knowledge of disorder, and assessing the school's progress with their child.

ECI assures that families with young children with developmental delays have the resources and support they need to reach their goals.

The Epilepsy Foundation of Southeast Texas is a non-profit organization founded in 1983 to improve the lives of the almost 100,000 adults and children with epilepsy in the 100 counties of north and southeast Texas. The Epilepsy Foundation of Southeast Texas is an affiliate of the Epilepsy Foundation, the national organization located in Landover, Maryland.
