Today, consumer protection is the most important job of the Insurance Commissioner. Commissioner The Commissioner coordinates a wide variety of protective and assistance services. His investigators follow up any consumer complaint, looking into the circumstances of disputes between consumers and companies, and taking the consumer's side whenever companies have acted improperly. The same Consumer Protection offices also respond to thousands of questions from consumers every year, and the agency publishes and distributes consumer guides and fact sheets to help Washington state residents be informed about their choices and rights when buying and using health coverage. |

State Developmental Disabilities Planning Councils are organizations that are appointed by each state's governor. Their members often include people with developmental disabilities, parents, guardians, non-governmental service providers, and representatives from state agencies that provide services for people with developmental disabilities and their families. The Councils provide advocacy and information for developmentally disabled individuals, their families, and the professionals who work with them. Each states' Council may vary according to what type of services they provide (although most do not provide direct services). To find out what type of resources are available to you, contact the Council in your state. |
