Something different: I am an autistic adult who works with autistic children on play skills and self advocacy, regardless of apparent communication level. Through a stepwise process the child and I can work with the family to improve communication that works FOR the child. Play skills, turn taking, IEP support, babysitting/respite, and some academic tutoring (depending on subject) are also available.

I also do the speaking gig thing, as requested. Topics include self advocacy, growing up autistic, a sensory integration simulation, and others.

At Washington DVR, we believe that every person who wants to work can, and that working helps people become independent and successful. Each DVR office throughout the state is committed to offering a welcoming environment and providing the information and support necessary for people with disabilities to direct and receive the goods and services in a way that makes the most sense for them.

In Washington, there are a growing number of people requesting DVR services and we are doing everything we can to serve the greatest number of people possible. During the previous year, DVR employees were able to accept many more applications, write many more employment plans, and help many more people with disabilities go to work than anticipated, which is great!

Unfortunately, because of declining resources and rising costs, DVR does not have enough resources to serve every eligible person immediately and there is a waiting list for services. DVR is working hard to keep the waiting time to a minimum and to help people begin their journey to employment as quickly as possible.

I am very proud of the services and programs DVR has to offer. See how these services work in the success stories we have highlighted, and you will see why we do this work. It makes a difference.
