Special Education is a support system designed to provide students with disabilities an equal opportunity to participate in and to benefit from public education. The Special Programs Unit has the responsibility of assuring that children with disabilities receive a free appropriate public education (FAPE) in the least restrictive environment (LRE). Unit staff members coordinate the implementation of policies and procedures; provide training and technical assistance; and monitor programs that provide special education and related services. |
